I Am Me and I Am Okay

When I was a teenager I had a poster in my room with postive affirmations on it. This was before I knew what an affirmation was. It began with, “I am me, and I am okay.” I remember reading that poster often, and as cheesy as it was, (I think I may have kept it inside my closet so no one would see it) it brought me great comfort.

Today I’m reminding myself once again that I’m human and humans make mistakes. This is normal and it gives us a chance to learn and grow. I give people room to make mistakes and if others don’t offer me the same courteousy then shame on them. This doesn’t change the fact that I’m normal in my inperfection. I must let go of the idea that one day I’ll wake up and be perfect and always know the right things to do or say. I’m very fortunate that I have a small group of people who know my many inperfections and love me anyway. I call those people family.

For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Ecclesiastes 7:20 KJV
